Dear Jo, thank you so much for being so helpful! 🌷 Much appreciated. 🤍
I exploit those transcripts a lot. I often use them for identifying pauses in speech. I give them an extract and play the recording and ask them to identify the pauses. We then practice reading that extract aloud using the pauses. If the reading activity is a dialogue, or a conversation with three people, I often put them into pairs/groups to practice reading the conversation (this is after they have heard the recording so they are trying to mimic the way it has been spoken on the recording. I am lucky enough to have access to the transcripts in a word document (downloaded from the publisher's website). This means I can easily lift out extracts when I want to. Saves a lot of time.
❤❤❤
Great ideas showing ideal ways for the use of any material more than once ❤ thanks a lot ❤
Great tips, as always. Listening is challenging due to the absence of the text in its physical form, and utilizing transcripts is an excellent way for students to learn what they miss while listening.
Marvelous ❤ it's soo on time for me.
So pleased to hear!
Excellent way of presenting a very big topic in an easily absorable manner. My best pick from this is 'how to break the ice' by personalizing learning.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Can make vids of how to teach Pre Entry ESOL students plz. Are there any methods like ppp etc
Thank you very much, Jo! That's something I've been needing recently. I feel I've become too impersonal and disconnected from my students, and it's been a challenge to overcome that. This particular video inspired me a lot and this is the third time I watch it. Once again, thank you! I hope I'll be able to get back on track.
Good luck with it! Knowing it is half way to addressing it I think 😀
I go to the classes' coordinator, and I tell him: I am resigning today, find another teacher😂
Inspiring❤
And we can demo an example to make sure they know what they need to do:<)
Excellent! Thank you! 🙂
I've just discovered your channel, and it is phenomenal!! In my 16 years as a private ESOL tutor for adults, the best advice I have ever seen comes from YOUR videos: #1. Be prepared to explain WHY the right answers to your exercises/activities are correct, and #2. Teach your students, not your plan. Thank you for sharing all of your invaluable insights.
Ah Hilary- thanks so much! What lovely feedback!
I am finishing my CELTA this Saturday. I want to focus on tenses, grammatical form. I love fiction writers however, so would like to be able to do something that involves literature in my development, using authentic texts with my students.
should this kind of exercise be best used for specific lessons: i.e. reading, listening, vocab, grammar?
I think the principle could be used for any kind of lesson, really…
@@elttraining I see. Thank you. After having completed a CELTA years and years ago, I'm starting a summer placement at an international school... I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and conducting the lessons :)
@@rexb2292 Have fun with it!
Your videos always teach me a lot <3
Ah- that’s great 😀
I remember that Cambridge introduced the blended online CELTA course back in 2012 or so. I guess COVID forced many providers to convert towards the fully online CELTA course. Nevertheless, speaking to a recruiter back in 2012 at IATEFL in Brighton, she mentioned that the blended online course was never really a proper course. I wonder whether institutes are rather selective much like that recruiter I spoke to in 2012 regardless how much Cambridge attempt equalise the course.
I didn’t mention the blended course (which they used to call the online celta) in this video because it doesn’t exist anymore. It was never really an online course because the teaching practice was always face-to-face. It was just the input that was on a Moodle platform… it was quite popular with some centres who did intensive teaching practice over two weeks but it never caught on in the same way as the online course now has.
Any recommendation for teaching Pre Entry level. Any websites. Resources are very limited
If you’re on a CELTA course then you should have a course book to use and it’s a good idea to learn how to do this. There are also lots of great sites for learners all levels. Have a look at this free resource on my site and you’ll find some examples.www.elt-training.com/course/lesson-plans
I am doing a zoom CELTA course now, the biggest challenge and difference I think is using the zoom technology for your lessons. It’s half the battle making sure you know how it works and using it easily but also it’s harder as you don’t get to gage your students as easier as you do face to face or even put them in pairs to do an activity, you have to do the BOR’s. If you can manage it you know you can teach anywhere and use the technology too 😊
It’s true that you need to learn to manage the online tools but these are useful lessons, I think 😀
@@elttraining yes they are very useful tools, just unexpected how much you have to do along with the lesson. And this online course is a proper course, well organised and executed. Would recommend it. 😊😊
Excellent! Thank you!
One thing that shouldn't be overlooked is how draining Zoom classes can be. Being stuck in one spot for hours on end can be exhausting. I remember doing my part-time online class with a provider halfway across the world, so I would start classes at 4pm and end at 11pm, with an hour for food. I ploughed through it, but just thought to remind potential trainees.
Yes- I totally agree. I do make this point in the video … 😀
Amazing thank you!
very useful, thanks!! besides, u sound very kind;
Ah- that’s nice!
How do you make a lesson or classroom plan? How is it prepared😢
I’ve got a great online course for this www.elt-training.com/course/lesson-planning
Thank you so much , On Friday I have an exam and I must know all the methods to teach English and I was crying, because I didn't understand this aaah, I must learn the 13 methods by heart :,(
i'm REALLY struggling with beginners. The silence and the nerves on their part makes me nervous! And they become so bored easily.
Hi Jo, the next professional input, thank you :) Jo, do you offer online delta module 1 prep online courses?
Hi! I’m sorry, I don’t offer this but I’ve got some great courses on offer for teachers here www.elt-training.com/bundle/complete-teacher-bundle

Thank u my fairy lady for Your big big help for all teachers in the world. I m an early bird😁😁😁 but i live in Baghdad so the difference of time as usual. I came home before an hour and now i am checking my emails. 🐻🐻🐻🌺🌺🌺🌷🌷🌷🌹🌹💐💐
Thanks, Jo! I have a question. Are the listening and reading exercises connected to the questions and the answers could also be found in the exercise sheets?
Hi Analuka- I've included the script and the questions and answers on my site here www.elt-training.com/blog/mix-your-class-up-and-make-it-better but you could easily make your own questions on a topic that's relevant or interesting to your learners using AI- have fun with it!
Thanks our amazing teacher🤍 I have a question: Is it okay to shuffle between stages of MPF ? I mean can I start with meaning, then form and at the end I add pronunciation?
Absolutely- see what works 😀
Chester (our Border Collie) and I both give this a thumbs up 👍
Do collies have thumbs?!
@@elttraining I'll try to let him down gently on this one 😁
Thanks, Jo! It sounds like the students will have a great time with this activity. I'm planning to teach about the writing process and opinion paragraph writing to B1-B2 students next week. I will try to incorporate this activity.
Great- let me know how it goes :)
very valuable information, and you sound really kind and sympathetic; thanks!
Ah- that's nice feedback!
Thank you teacher❤❤
I like it. Hopefully, I'll find a suitable space to squeeze it in.
Excellent as usual❤
Amazing. Thank u my kady
Learning more makes me much more curious.
Me, too!
I find it really informative
Excellent comparison!! Thank you!! 🙂❤
Thank you for this useful information.
Inspiring... astonishingly inspiring ❤
When I learned French at university classes, my teachers used my mother language-Chinese-to explain French, often asking us to make translations. As a result, I made limited progress, by the end of the first semester, I only know how to ask weather, and I don’t know how to speak or listen what the French people said. Then I went to Alliance Francaise, where teachers taught in French, and I had plenty of chances to speak and play games. As a result, I made huge progress, I can communicate with the French. I even passed DALF C1 in the end. CLT really matters
The new "chatGPT 4o" appears soon!!
Great ideas! And your smile and attitude are contagious!
So do students first read for gist to themselves with a question, and then repeat along with the teacher, followed by another repetition with a different focus?
Yes-that’s one way to do this. The important thing is that they understand what they’re saying first! And any tricky pronunciation…
How long teachers stay working in a school can say a lot about the school! Asking about schedule and employees rights!
I think that schools that actually run the CELTA are often the best for newer teachers, because typically they'll offer a continuation of the things you've learned.
That can certainly be true and these schools are often really well placed to offer CPD but I’ve worked in great, supportive schools that weren’t CELTA centres too…
